The International Fragrance Association (IFRA) has recently launched the public consultation on the draft of the 52nd Amendment to the IFRA Standards, a highly significant update for the cosmetics and perfumery industry.
This new amendment introduces a wide range of revisions and new restrictions on aromatic ingredients, with the aim of further strengthening the safety of fragranced products.
What the 52nd Amendment includes
The proposed measures mainly focus on two key aspects of cosmetic safety:

Systemic toxicity
Two parameters that directly influence safety assessment, formulation development, and the technical documentation of fragranced products.
According to the published information, the draft amendment includes:

40 new restrictive standards based on skin sensitization and systemic toxicity

11 additional new standards based exclusively on skin sensitization

15 revisions of existing restrictions

An update to musk ketone specifications
-
An update to furocoumarins restrictions
